We need Alaska’s business women to support Alaska’s rising stars!
• We need 1000 women to commit to give at least $100 annually.
• Our goal is to replace $100,000 of current, yet uncertain, grant funding with local support directly from the women in our community. That's you!
Please wear your pin often so the women you’re helping can thank you for your support!
What we've done
• Our program has been recognized by the YWCA USA as a model program for all other YWCAs nationwide.
• In April 2007, we launched the Alaska Microenterprise Incubation Center; an innovative facility combining the virtual office with microenterprise development best practices.
• Each year, we help over 250 women providing over 750 hours of one-on-one counseling.
• Each year, the staff fields about 3250 calls from women who need business support.
Alaska’s Women Rock!
· 42.3% of businesses in Alaska are 50% or more women-owned.
· Women-owned businesses achieved $6.3 billion in sales and employed 33,257 in 2006.
Microenterprise Development Works!
· At program entry, microenterprise clients are: 60% women, 50% persons of color, ethnic and racial minorities, 30% at or below poverty level and 11% public assistance recipients.
· After program services: 91% increased their household income; 36% moved out of poverty; and the training had a significant and positive effect on the likelihood of being employed.
All Lift as we Rise donors will receive a bumblebee lapel pin and recognition in our newsletter.
